Alarm Schemes
Alarm Schemes allow you to create a complex alarm which is based on tiers using timing and logic. These schemes can also include Alarm Schedules that are configured to alarm for a specified date time frame.
NOTE: To be able to configure an Alarm Scheme you must first be granted the appropriate security permissions by your administrator.
Navigating to Alarm Schemes
There are two ways to navigate to the Alarm Schemes page:
- Hover with your mouse over Related Pages in the top right corner of your page and select Schemes from the dropdown menu that appears.
- At the Notification Options step of the wizard when configuring either a Multi-Device or Tag Level Set Point, make sure the Use a scheme for alarm notifiations radio button is selected and click Manage alarm schemes... under the Alarm Schemes box
With the last step you have the option to return to the Notification Options step in the wizard that you navigated from by clicking Return to set point administration... in the bottom right corner of this page.

Adding a New Alarm Scheme
To add a new Alarm Scheme:
Scheme Name
- Click New Alarm Scheme at the top right corner of this page.
2. Type the alarm scheme name in the available text box.
Click Add.
Add Tier
- Click New Tier to begin adding tiers to this scheme.
2. Under the Tier Settings tab type the tier name in the available text box.
3. In the Tier Configuration Settings area, enter the amount of time you want to wait before notifying the recipients in this tier. A standard value is 0 (zero), meaning the recipients are notified immediately.
4. Click a radio button to specify the frequency of the alarm notification for this tier.
"Alarm Once" sends the alarm to the specified list(s) only one time.
"Alarm Every xx minutes until Acknowledged" sends the alarm at the specified interval until someone on the notification list(s) acknowledges the alarm.
"Alarm xx times, xx minutes apart" sends the alarm at the specified interval for the specified number of times.
Add Recipients
- Under the Notification Settings tab, select the notification list(s) for that tier by clicking on the list name in the Available Notification Lists box, then clicking the Select icon.
Schedule Settings (Optional)
You can use the established alarm schemes to create more complex schedules for notifying recipients of set point alarms or the clearing of alarms.
Before creating Scheduled Notification Lists, you should first carefully consider the conditions under which you want alarms sent, to whom they should be sent, and how often they should be sent. See Alarm Schedule Example.
Editing an Existing Alarm Scheme
To edit an existing alarm scheme:
- Select the line of the alarm scheme you want to edit. If you do not see the alarm scheme you want to edit, use the pagination at the bottom of this page to click through other pages of alarm schemes. You may also use the Filter alarm schemes... option at the bottom of the page to search for alarm schemes by name.
2. Click Edition the highlight row.
NOTE: To view the details of the alarm scheme you can click the Plus Sign to expand the detail area below the alarm scheme name.
3. To edit a scheme name, make the update in the text box and click Apply. If you want to make changes to a tier, click Configure.
4. When the pop-up box appears, make the appropriate changes to this tier and click OK.
Scheme Usage
You can view what alarms a scheme is applied to. Follow the steps below:
- Select the line of the alarm scheme you want to edit. If you do not see the alarm scheme you want to edit, use the pagination at the bottom of this page to click through other pages of alarm schemes. You may also use the Filter alarm schemes...option at the bottom of the page to search for alarm schemes by name.
- Click Usage on the highlighted row.
Deleting a Scheme
To delete a scheme follow the steps below:
- Select the line of the alarm scheme you want to edit. If you do not see the alarm scheme you want to edit, use the pagination at the bottom of this page to click through other pages of alarm schemes. You may also use the Filter alarm schemes...option at the bottom of the page to search for alarm schemes by name.
- Click Delete on the highlighted row.
The following pop-up will appear if this scheme is being used on a set point:

NOTE: If this scheme is used by any set points, a pop-up box will appear letting you know this and asking if you still would like to move on with deleting that scheme.
